UNTANGLING THE BONES Oh I know, I know, for I have felt as skinless as you are now Oh, hush now, I know, for I have felt as broken as you look now And I longed for someone to take me kindly in their hands, and I longed for someone to sing me gently in my ear, it’s alright, it’s alright sweet, sweet child, it’s alright So would you let me take you in my hands, and with love reshape you as you were once, for there’s glory in these bones, I see it now, there’s grace and strength and beauty shining out, there’s glory in these bones, yes I see it now And I long to be someone who’d take you kindly in my hands, and I long to be someone who’d sing you gently in your ear, it’s alright, it’s alright, sweet, sweet child, it’s alright

BELIEVE IN LOVE This is a beautiful world, are we gonna save it. This is a paradise and it looks like we’re gonna destroy it. I went to a school of love and love is a flame to hold, love it isn't soft and nice no, love is a storm that rips through you, tears down every lie that doesn't serve you I believe in love, as the strongest force there is Stronger than the American army And that is enough now of all of the violence and war, and that is enough now of all the corruption in power, and we are the ones to stand and it’s all so very simple. The power is in our hands cos it only takes one to choose, one in love is stronger than millions who aren’t I believe in love, as the strongest force there is Stronger than the American army And it starts right here, yeah it starts right here, at the war in my heart, at the violence to myself, I said it starts right here, and I’m gonna start right here, stop the war in my heart, stop the violence to myself I believe in love, as the strongest force there is, as the strongest source that there is, stronger than the American army

NOTHING IS FORBIDDEN When everything comes falling down, when you forget just who you are, when you lose your solid ground, when the judge comes in with the words to tear you down You have the love you need, you are the love you need When your heart is all sung out, when you can’t feel another damn thing. When life serves you the one thing you don’t want When you hate everything and you hate everyone and you don’t know how to be You have the love you need, you are the love you need Oh bring it all down, lay it at your feet, cos you know how to love like nothing is forbidden. Won’t you bring it all down, the earth knows how to hold you and you’ve been given a heart that knows just how to love you, to love you You have the love you need, you are the love you need

BUFFALO WOMAN I don’t wanna be a woman in power like a man in power, a woman bleeds. The bleeding women slept with their heads in the centre to dream a collective dream, to find out where the buffalo were I don’t want to be a woman in power like a man in power, a woman cries, I feel the pain of my child in my own cells, I do not sleep if he’s in danger, I do not sleep if he’s at war, I go out onto the streets and stand in front of the machines I want to do it together with you, man in power, but I do it in my way Cos I need you and you need me I’m coming back to the centre of the government I’m gonna bleed in the centre of the government I’m gonna feel, I’m gonna cry, I’m gonna dream-see where the buffalo have gone I don’t believe anymore that I’m dirty, or that I’m cursed, I don’t believe anymore that I’m weak, I will end every war, I will feed every child, I will stop the destruction of everything that I love Love is the most powerful thing in the universe and I know how to wield it, yes I know how to feel it I’m coming back to the centre of the government I’m gonna bleed in the centre of the government I’m gonna feel, I’m gonna cry, I’m gonna dream-see where the buffalo have gone And will you stand by me, will you stand by me? Will you recognise me, will you recognise me? The time has come I can’t wait any longer, my heart is breaking, I’m coming in with my love, I’m coming in, I’m coming in, I’m coming back to the centre of the government

EMOTIONAL CREATURE Words by Eve Ensler. Music by Boe Huntress I love being a woman, I can feel what you’re feeling as you’re feeling it inside the feeling before, I am an emotional creature, things do not come to me as intellectual theories or hard shaped ideas, they pulse through my organs and legs and they burn up my ears I know when your girlfiend’s really pissed off even though she appears to give you what you want, I know when a storm is coming I can feel the invisible stirrings in the air, I can tell you that he won’t call back it’s a vibe, it’s a vibe I share I am an emotional creature, I love that I don’t take things lightly Everything, everything is intense to me, the way I walk in the street The way the morning wakes me up, the way I hear bad news The way it’s unbearable when I lose I am an emotional creature, I am connected to everything and everyone, I was born like that don’t you dare say, all negative, that it’s a teenage thing, or it’s only beceause I’m a woman These feelings they make me better, they make me ready, they make me present, they make me strong I am an emotional creature, and there is a particular way of knowing It’s like somehow it was forgotten, I rejoice, it’s still in my body, cos I know when the coconut’s about to fall, I know we’ve pushed the earth too far, I know my father isn’t coming back and that no one’s prepared for the fire, I know that lipstick means more than show, I know boys feel super insecure, and so called terrorists are made not born, I know that one kiss can take away all my decision making abilities and sometimes, you know, it should This is not extreme it’s a woman thing, what would we all be if the big door inside us flew open? Don’t tell me not to cry, to calm it down, not to be so extreme, to be reasonable, cos I am an emotional creature, it’s how the earth got made, how the wind continues to pollinate, you don’t tell the atlantic ocean to behave I am an emotional creature, why would you want to shut me down or turn me off, I am your remaining memory, I am connecting you to your source. Nothing’s been diluted, nothing’s leaked out, oh I can take you back I love that I can feel the inside of the feelings in you, even if it stops my life, even if it hurts too much or takes me off track, even if it breaks my heart, it makes me responsible I am an emotional, I am an emotional, I am an emotional, devotional, incandotional creature and I love, I love, I love, hear me, I love, I love, I love, being a woman

about

Simple songs on the guitar, with harmonies.

Informed by a long line of protest songwriters from Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan, to Victor Jara and Fela Kuti, to The Clash and Bikini Kill, Boe Huntress brings her style of simple, raw, Joni Mitchell inspired punk-acoustica on this limited edition EP, in celebration of her own birthday.

"I enjoy subtlety and nuance in song-writing, often myth-inspired, which needs untangling. At other times I write more directly and simply. This EP includes both approaches. I wrote most of these songs in tears.

The first track, Untangling The Bones is based on an Inuit myth about a fisherman who accidentally hooks a skeleton woman, he rows away terrified yet unbeknownst to him takes her home tangled in his fishing line. In his snowhut, softened by the light of his whale oil lamp he sees her differently and a compassion comes over him, he untangles her from his fishing line singing this song...

The EP also includes the song Emotional Creature as a bonus track. The words are taken from a poem by Eve Ensler, who wrote The Vagina Monologues. Eve Ensler is a long time heroine of mine.

Buffalo Woman is inspired by indigenous Native American tribes who consult a council of bleeding women on all major decisions.

Nothing is Forbidden is for those times when chocolate, cigars, cognac and other such aids are not available.

Believe in Love is written for activists, change-makers and lovers, as a tonic for the days when it looks hopeless. Love is often confused with kindness, for me love and fierceness are one, love is awakeness. The hopelessness is a facade. It's actually easy to make the switch to love. We're just not practised in it, we're not educated in it. We're educated in, and live in, a climate of fear. Change takes time, but it can also be right here right now. Sometimes someone comes along and does that very thing, a movement is born, a change is made. End of slavery, civil rights movement, suffragettes. Everybody has the potential to be that person who believes the impossible is possible. Everybody has the potential to see beyond what is, and take the courage to make it happen. What you believe defines everything about your life and your reality. Don't be a cynic, that is safe, that is waiting for someone else to prove it first so you don't look stupid believing something unproven. Look stupid. Be misunderstood. Take risks. Fight for the existence you want."
